Prayer 

 

Commitment to God:  (based on Ephesians 4, 5)

I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling

you have received.

I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord,

that you must be made new

in the attitude of your minds;

and you must put on the new self,

created to be like God,

as God accurately reproduces his character in you.

Follow God’s example. 

Watch what God does, and then do it. 

Mostly what God does is love us. 

Keep company with him and learn a life of love. 

Observe how Christ loved us. 

His love was not cautious but extravagant.  

He didn’t love in order to get something from us

but to give everything of himself to us. 

Love like that.

As followers of Jesus Christ

The rule of Jesus Christ covers the whole world.

To follow this Lord is

We serve Christ by thankfully receiving our life

as a gift from his hand.

and that answer God's demands

Welcome!  “Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go,” the psalmist prayed (Psalm 71:3).  May we all find that God is a “rock of refuge” where we find help for every hour of need.  A hearty welcome to all who have come to worship our Creator.  After the morning service all are invited to the fellowship hall next to the sanctuary for a cup of coffee or juice and continued fellowship.

 

OUR CHURCH FAMILY

 

Michelle De Kok is scheduled to have a PET scan on August 18 and her transplant on August 27.  Her sister, Tricia, is arriving on August 20 to get her body ready so they can harvest the cells from her on August 26 & 27.  Michelle will have chemo prior to the transplant.  After the transplant Michelle and Melba will be staying in Seattle for 3 months.  They will be moving this coming week to Seattle.  Keep the family in your prayers as they make these adjustments and pray that the transplant will be a complete success.

 

OUR CHURCH EVENTS

 

From the Council:  At the last special council meeting Rev. VanLoo was granted an additional six months extension as our Transitional Pastor.  We thank God that he has accepted the extension.  Pray for us as a congregation, and the Lord’s leading as we work through the process of calling a pastor.

 

The Search Committee will meet in the council room after the morning service today.

 

Blood Draw:  A blood draw will be held on Monday, August 18, from 1:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in the Fireside Room.  Please help ensure an ample summer blood supply.

The Fellowship Committee plans to meet on Monday, August 25.

 

Mark Your Calendars:  The church salmon barbeque will be held on Saturday, September 6 at Mount Vernon Christian School.  Fellowship will be from 4:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m.  Dinner will be at 5:30 p.m.  Those with last names starting with A-J are asked to bring salads and K-Z are asked to bring desserts.  To help plan, please sign up today on the sheets on the foyer table and the coffee table in the fellowship hall indicating how many from your family will be attending.

 

The Wednesday Evening Women’s Bible Study will be starting a new series of lessons this fall.  We will be studying “The Sermon on the Mount” from Matthew 5.  All women of any age are welcome to join us.  Please join our group as we study God’s Word.  Please sign up on the sheet in the Fellowship Hall on the coffee table so we can order the material.  If you have any questions you may contact Jean Rasmussen at 757 –6773 or Alice De Vries at 424-3508.

Home Missions:  Christian Reformed Home Missions has announced the appointment of Ben Vandezande as interim director, effective October 1st.  We praise God for this answer to prayer!  Vandezande will replace John Rozeboom, who is retiring after leading Home Missions for 22 years.  Please join us in asking the Lord to be with Ben as he prepares to take on the task of leading the agency for the next two years

 

Back to God Ministries International:  Pray for Rev. Paul Mpindi, French ministry leader, as he leads pastor training events in Benin and Congo this month. More than 2000 pastors and church leaders are expected to attend. Pray that the follow-up training they receive will help them disciple the thousands of listeners who are coming to Christ through the ministry of Back to God Ministries International.
